
WW Sones Junior Ltd was formed in 1976 by Bill Sones, having worked for his fathers landscaping company for years. He began trading from a small premises in Langley Moor, near Durham. The business grew quite rapidly into new premises on Littleburn Industrial Estate.
One of the first contracts secured was for Leech Homes at Newton Hall, followed by bigger contracts such as the renovation of Cornthwaite Park in Whitburn and landscaping for Coulson Estates at Langley Moor.
For the Cornthwaite Project, they had a company double decker bus which Bill would take the lads to work on.
It was during these years that the relationship was built between Sones & Michael Hogan of Deerness Fencing. After eight years of successful trading, Bill Sones downed tools and became office based.
Over the years WW Sones Junior Ltd worked on some prestigious North East sites including the landscaping construction at the Metro Centre and Doxford International Business Park.
In October 1999, Lumsden & Carroll bought the maintenance sector of WW Sones Junior Ltd, forming Sones Maintenance & Environmental Ltd and becoming part of the Esh Group. It was at this point, the founder Bill Sones, took the opportunity to retire.
In recent years, Sones Maintenance & Environmental changed its trading name to be known as Sones Landscaping.
