Sones Landscaping provide a full Grounds Maintenance Service for Wear Valley District Council.  It is carried out under a Partnering Agreement for a period of five years.  The Contract is a continuation and expansion of previously competitively tendered Contracts which had been undertaken by Sones for over a decade prior to entering into the Partnership.

It was recommended by the Government ‘Best Value’ Audit Commission that the Council enter in to a Partnership with Sones.  It was recognised that the company could add real value by sharing control of the service and providing management and financial input that was discouraged by the previous traditional form of Contract.

The work includes the provision of grass cutting to Recreation areas, public spaces, bowling greens and highways.  Cemetery maintenance and burial services are also an important and sensitive element of the service.  In addition, various hard and soft landscaping works, tree surgery and play equipment inspection and maintenance works are routinely carried out.   Customer satisfaction surveys are a frequent feature.

The ODPM recognises this partnership as being an exemplar and it features on their website (see link below).
